Many pet owners love their Furry Friends but wish they didn't have to deal with the Time AND Money caused by Pet Accidents.
So if you have an energetic puppy or adorable kitten that has not been house trained, yet, or even if you are just pet sitting or working on a great cause, such as fostering pets, then you will be glad to find out some ways to treat Urine Stains on Carpet.
Pet Sitting?
Imagine this, your mom goes out of town, and you offer to take care of her Puppy. You believe that Pup is house trained, but Moree doesn’t recognize your home, and he may be drinking a little too much water too late, and BOOM. You wake up to stepping on a damp carpet. Ay,ya, yay.
"Why did this happen?" "I thought he was house trained, right" Well, he might be, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any accidents. Pet Accidents happen all the time.
And this is only only one accident that WE noticed. Who knows if there were more that happened, while we were at work and dried by the time we came home.
However, a tall-telling sign is a strange odor that makes an appearance, when it's either VERY humid or when it is Raining.
So what can we do to treat Urine Stains?
Read Below.
Treating Urine Stains vs. Removing Stains
So, as Carpet Cleaners, we can tell you that it is much easier and inexpensive to TREAT Urine Stains versus REMOVING Urine Stains.
It is not impossible to remove urine, but the HASSLE of Removing Urine almost doesn’t make it worth it... You are better off replacing the Carpets than removing urine. So, what most Professional Carpet Cleaners suggest is TREATING the areas where the pets have had accidents.
Here are some Home Remedies you can try at home for Treating Urine Stains.
1. Baking Soda
Very original, I know, but it works!
What you need:
-
Baking Soda
-
Vacuum
How to Clean:
-
Apply a generous pile of Baking Soda on top of the Urine Stain overnight.
-
The Baking Soda will absorb the smell and allow you to pick up the mess with a vacuum.
2. Volcano Spray
If you want to get fancier with it, we found an excellent Cleaning Concoction from AKC Pet Insurance that seemed safe enough for DIY Pet Stain Treating.
They call it the Volcano Spray because as they say, “uses the same ingredients and...chemistry as your volcano project”.
What you need:
-
Spray Bottle
-
Cloth
-
4 Tablespoons of Baking Soda
-
2 Cups White Distilled Vinegar
-
2 Cups Lukewarm Water
-
Vacuum
How to clean:
-
Blot the area with a clean cloth to absorb all excess liquid. In case of a fecal accident, remove all solid residue before applying cleaner.
-
Mix Vinegar with warm water in a clean spray bottle. Spray generously over the stain.
-
Over the top of the sprayed stain, spread a thin layer of baking soda. Within an hour (or longer, for more set-in stains), the baking soda will absorb urine or fecal residue.
-
Vacuum the area to remove the now-stained baking soda deep in the carpet.
3. White Vinegar and Baking Soda
Another DIY Pet Stain Cleaning Remedy is using Baking Soda and Vinegar from One Good Thing by Jilee.
What You Need:
-
White Vinegar
-
Baking Soda
-
1 Cup
-
Large Dish
-
Towel
-
Vacuum
How to Clean:
-
Pour White Vinegar on Urine Stain without leaving it soggy.
-
Apply a liberal amount of of baking soda and leave for a day or two.
-
Place a dish on top to avoid stepping on Baking Soda (you can skip step this if you wish).
-
Vacuum up the Baking Soda.
Remember
Don’t torture yourself with finding out ways to completely removing ALL the urine. The trouble is much more than it’s worth. HOWEVER, do treat Pet Urine Stains right away.
We recommend using Baking Soda to alleviate the Smell and prevent Discoloration on carpets like other over-the-counter products tend to do.
Now, if you don’t see Pet Stains, but can definitely SMELL them. Then it could be that the type of carpet installed is great at MASKING stains.
Another possibility is that if you have Cats, the Male Cat tends to mark territories by SPRAYING on walls. So, the offending object may not even be the carpet, but the walls instead.
