Through a dustless 6-step process, Hernandez Carpet Cleaning is able to bring your hardwood floors back to life but how long will the new look last? With the help from you and some simple maintenance your hardwood floors can stay alive for years! We recommend maintenance such as:
Microfiber mop or Swifter
The most effective method of collecting dust, dirt, allergens, and pet hair is by using a microfiber cloth. The cloth uses static electricity to trap anything in it's path. Some broom bristles can scratch your floor so microfiber is also the safest cleaning option.
Vacuum/Sweep
Vacuum or sweep the hardwood floor every week, as this prevents dirt and particle buildup which can scratch the wood’s surface. Make sure to use a soft-bristled attachment or a broom and focus on high-traffic areas. Never use vacuums with a beater bar attachment, it can scratch your floor.
Block Out UV
Believe it or not, sunlight coming through the windows can discolor and damage your floor. Block out the sun by using protective covers such as curtains and blinds. Doing so will protect your floor from being hit by UV rays and heat consistently. Also, rearrange rugs and furniture so the wood may age evenly.
AVOID
- Avoid walking on your hardwood floors with high heeled or damaging shoes.
- Don't clean your hardwood floors with a wet-mop, damp-mop, or with water.
- Avoid using household products that may contain lemon, citrus, or tung oil, or silicon to clean floors.
- Keep away from harsh cleaning tools such as steel wool pads, any rough pads, or scouring powders.
- NEVER use 2-in-1 cleaners that contain acrylics or urethane polish to restore gloss.
